You will learn how businesses are organised, structured and financed. You’ll investigate how they recruit and train staff, market their products and service their customers.
Back to topWhat will I learn in Y12 and how will I be assessed?
This is an Applied General qualification. In Y12 you will study 2 units:
Unit 1 - The business environment
Unit 4 - Customers and communications
In Unit 1 (external exam), you will learn how businesses operate, how they are structured and how the different functional areas allow them to be successful.
In Unit 4 (coursework), you will visit the Yorkshire Wildlife Park to research their methods of customer service and how they communicate both internally and externally.

In Y13 you will study 3 units:
Unit 2 – Working in Business
Unit 5 - Marketing & Market Research
Unit 11 - Accounting concepts
Unit 2 (external exam) examines the skills and understanding needed to work effectively in a business environment, eg. arranging meetings, working with business documents, making payments, prioritising business activities.
In Unit 5 (coursework), you will learn how market research contributes to marketing decision-making with particular emphasis on market research & analysis.
In Unit 11 (coursework), you will learn about the purposes of accounting and the accounting procedures used to produce final accounts.
For each unit, you will be awarded points which equate to an overall grade of Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction*.

Related Degrees
